Description
Hi! I am trying to merge the Understanding Society data with another data-set on pensionable age, based on the date of birth. I understand from the questionnaire that you are asking respondents for their date of birth. However, I just downloaded Understanding Society waves 1-6 (SN6614 on UK Data Service) and I was only able to find the variable birthy (Year of birth). Could you please advice me on how to obtain respondents' full date of birth (variables 'birthd', 'birthm' and 'birthy').
Thank you very much for your assistance.

Dear Elena,
Month of birth is available on Special Licence, but date of birth is only available by Secure Access. The procedure for Secure Access is available here: https://www.ukdataservice.ac.uk/get-data/how-to-access/accesssecurelab As you can see, it’s not possible to download the Secure Access data, only the results. But note that it is not just that these linking files will have to be organised by UKDS, we would need to understand more about your plans to know if it would be considered an acceptable use of data within our data access strategy.
However, if you are only interested in finding out whether someone is of pensionable age, this data will be available on the next data release in November.
Best wishes,

Dear Stephanie,
Thank you for this information. I will start my application for the Secure Access data. Do I need to send you my research design as well or is it sufficient if I provide all the information to the UKDS?
Best wishes,
