Description
Hi. Is there anywhere I can see a list of derived variables and their definitions? I'm search across the site and in the User Manuals but can't seem to find anything. The variable Search function doesn't seem to respond to a search for derived variables, "dv" or anything similar.

Hi Hannah,
to find derived variables that end on "dv", try looking for "*_dv", or to find pointers look for "*pno" or "*pid" in the online dataset documentation (i.e., make use of the wild card "*").
As a rule of thumb, derived variables are added last to our data files and they will sit at the bottom in your Stata variable listing. All variables should be documentated in the variable view of the online data set documentation. To find variables that are derived during the interview, you can search the questionnaire for terms such as "compute".

The tip about the dv files being at the end is useful, thanks, though I was ideally hoping to identify the variables I need before running Stata (being a bit of a novice with that programme and a bit overwhelmed by the number of data points!)
However, I can't get the variable search function to work as you suggest. Using "*_dv", "*dv" or any other combinations returns no results. Even if you use the exact name of the variable, the variable search function frequently returns no results - e.g. "jbstat", "*jbstat", "*_jbstat" all return 0 results. The search function can pick up the questions associated with these variables (and then, if you go through via the question you can follow the link through to the full variable description from the bottom of that page) but it can't seem to find the variable directly, even when using the exact name. It's rather frustrating and makes me wonder if the search function is working correctly?

searching for *_dv does work fine in my Internet browser, see jpeg attached. I am not sure why it does not work at your end. Which browser are you using?

it looks like you included " " in the search term. Have you tried searching for just the following: *_dv
