Hello!

I am trying to merge children to parents for COVID waves. Could you please tell me how can I do that?

Thank you

Rename pidp_c in cd_youth to pidp and then merge it to the latest main survey wave w_indall file from the main survey using pidp where the mother's and father's pidp is included (parents pidps are included only when they are living in the same household, if they are not living in the same household then the value of these variables are -8). The variable names for the father and mother pidp are w_fnspid and w_mnspid. After you have attached w_mnspid and w_fnspid to cd_youth, you can use the advice given in the syntax file for matching parents and children information here https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/documentation/mainstage/syntax. The syntax basically involves renaming the mother/father pidp into pidp and then using pidp to match to the parent file, in your case that is cd_indresp. This was also explained in #1671 but here we are providing names of specific variable. Hope that makes it clearer.

Best wishes,
