Description

Dear Sir or Madam,

I don’t have access to Understanding Society data now and so was wondering if I can ask a couple of questions about the dataset:
1, I realized that Understanding Society is the successor of BHPS and so wondered if subjective well-being data are still collected in this dataset? If yes, is GHQ12 still used to measure people’s subjective well-being?
2, I can see that most households who were involved in BHPS data were invited and agreed to be interviewed to provide data for Understanding Society, so is there any way to merge BHPS data and Understanding Society data, e.g., using id? Many thanks.

Kind regards,
Jyang

Hello Jyang,

There are different measures of subjective wellbeing in Understanding Society: Life satisfaction, GHQ, WEMWBS.

Even if you don't have access to the data, you can find out which questions are asked by looking at the questionnaires:
https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/documentation
Then click on "Questionnaires" in the panel "Main Survey"

Understanding Society data files include the BHPS personal identifier, PID, which can be used to link back to the BHPS data.

Best wishes,
Alita
