Description
Hello
I am interested in using Understanding Society data to explore data around teenage and young mothers. More specifically to compare characteristics of young mothers under age 20 and those aged 20-25.
Can you please let me know whether this kind of data is actually collected and how I could access the data for analysis purposes.
Many thanks
Marsha

Hi Marsha,
Understanding Society data are made available through the UK Data Service and can be downloaded from their website (after registering), see https://discover.ukdataservice.ac.uk/series/?sn=2000053.
Understanding Society is a very large general population study so you can expect there to be some young mothers aged <20 or 20-25 in the sample. There is no readily available indicator that reports whether a person in that specific age group is a mother so we cannot advise on how many cases there will be. Ultimately, that will depend on your exact definitions and which other variables will be using so best to get hold of the data and check for yourself.
Best wishes,
Gundi
