Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am trying to find the gender of the children in a given household.

The children should ideally be under 16 years of age and be the biological kids of the father. I understand that the fertility history variable in the indrep data file gives me the info on the biological father. I am not sure where to look for the gender of all the kids though, if it is available at all. I checked in the _child file where there is a _sex info. Would that be it?

I would appreciate your help.

Dear Nico,
the gender of all children enumerated in the household is included in the following files: _indall, _child.
These data files also contain the pointer to the biological parents. The pointer is applicable so long as the biological parent lives in the same household as the child in the current wave: _fpid (for PIPD of father) _fnpno (for PNO of father in current wave household).
