Description

Dear support team,

I have been looking for a measure of 'underemployment' in the Understanding Society dataset for a study I am doing that is combining the BHPS data with the BHPS cases in wave 2 of Understanding Society. Please can you tell me if there is such a measure as I have been unable to find anything that could be used.

By underemployment, I am referring to people who work part time but would ideally like to work full time, or people would like to work more hours than they are currently working. In the BHPS, the variable 'JBHRLK' could be used to identify people who would prefer to work more hours.

Kind regards,
David Bayliss

Not a direct question, but the annual event history module of the questionnaire contains questions about whether the person has changed job status since last interview and if so, what the non-employment status for each spell of non-employment was, e.g. full-time student, family care, unemployed/seeking work, etc.
