Description
Dear,
I was wondering which age-variables to use in my analyses of both the BHPS and UKHLS data? The BHPS provides age12 and wage (as well as dobm and doby), but these do not seem to be exactly the same as dv_age and and age_cr (and birthy) in the UKHLS data.
Many thanks,
Christa

Hi Christa,
the variables wage in the BHPS and w_dvage in the UKHLS report the respondent's age at the time of the interview. I'd use that information. Or, if you are interested in only adults aged 16+, you can use w_age_cr on data file w_indresp which corrects for some cross-wave inconsistencies, for example, if the date of birth was guessed by another household member in the previous wave and subsequently reported by the respondent herself, or was recorded with error.
HTH,
Gundi
