Description

When I cross tabulate c_jbnnssec_dv (NS-SEC of current job) with c_jobstat (current employment status) , some people who are in paid employment or self-employed according to c_jobstat do not have an NS-SEC and are classified as missing or inapplicable for c_jobnnsec_dv. I am wondering why that is?

Hi Veronique,
when you look at the online variable level description you will see that _jbnssec_dv is derived from _jbsoc00 and _jbes2000; if any of these were missing, _jbnssec_dv could not be derived. In the variable notes to _jbsoc00 and also in the questionnaire you can also see that this question was applicable only to those who had _jbhas or _jboff==1. By comparing the question behind _jbstat and _jbhas you can work out where discrepancies might stem from. E.g. somebody might say being a student best describes their current employment status, yet they may have been in paid employment in the last four weeks, and vice versa. If there are discrepancies that are not explained by the fact that _jbstat is not used in the routing for _jbnssec_dv, please let us know and we can investigate. Note that it may take longer to receive a response over the holiday season.
Hope this helps!
