Understanding Society User Support

Hi there,
I'm using US for a masters project and am trying to select my dataset so that it only includes the household reference people. Is there a US variable which identifies who this is? Or do I need to build either
a) syntax which identifies the tenant/homeowner with largest income for each household?
or
b) syntax which selects those who answered the household questionnaire.
