Description

Hi, I'm trying to look at issues related to income. There is a variable c_prfitba which is the "total personal income annually". This seems like an obvious variable but for 97.82%, the answer is "inapplicable". Obviously far more than 2% of people have a personal income. Can anyone clarify what is going on?

Regards,
Greg Hines

Hi Greg,
the question was part of the proxy interview and there are not that many in Understanding Society.
You can find out who a question was applicable to by checking the universe information in the questionnaire, and by looking at the variable level description in the online dataset documentation.
https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/documentation/mainstage/dataset-documentation/wave/3/datafile/c_indresp/variable/c_prfitba

The User Guide, section 3.8, also has a detailed description of which income variables are provided in the study data. Is there an indicator that is more suitable for your analysis?

Best wishes,
Gundi
