Description
I'd like to create a variable of number of job spells from 1/9/2009-1/9/2010 (as opposed to the existing variable b_nunmpsp_dv which is job spells since last interview)so that it can be directly compared with the job spells variable from the BHPS which has the 1/9/xx to 1/9/xx format).Does anyone have an idea of how I could do this in terms of syntax? Thanks

I have received the following advice:
...using the start date of new spells as the end date for the previous spell, turning it into a format that your programme understands to be dates, and then counting the number of spells that fall in between the two dates of interest. You will need to come up with imputes for some missings on start dates, and note that the interview period for the BHPS sample has changed from Sept.-Dec each year to Jan.-Dec. each year; this will mean the measures will not be directly comparable – in particular in Wave 2 when some people have had almost two years between interviews and the recall period is rather long.
