openjbnssec8_dv - Large employers & higher management and Higher professional

Description
Hi Folks,
I am writing to ask if you could provide some information and examples of jobs for 'Large employers & higher management' and 'Higher professional' for the jbnssec8_dv variable? What are the differences between these jobs? I'm asking as the NS-SEC classification lumps these jobs together so I'm interested to know why they are separated in USoc. The higher management jobs are classed by occupation and not by the position/title of the respondent? For example, if a respondent was an office manager in an intermediate job, this would be classified as 4 for jbnssec8_dv (NS-SEC 3) and not higher management?
Many thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,
NS-SEC does distinguish between these two categories, but as subcategories (see page 13, Table 3 in this document: https://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ukgwa/20160105160709/https://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/classifications/current-standard-classifications/soc2010/soc2010-volume-3-ns-sec--rebased-on-soc2010--user-manual/section-13--deriving-the-ns-sec--full--reduced-and-simplified-methods.pdf
) – 1. Higher managerial, administrative and professional occupations can be split into 1.1 Large employers and higher managerial and administrative occupations and 1.2 Higher professional occupations.
Since we do not include the analytic NS-SEC 8 category “Never worked and long-term unemployed”, our variable still has 8 categories because the top NS-SEC category is split into two (Large employers & higher management vs Higher professional).
Best wishes,
Piotr Marzec
