Description
Hi there,
I know wave 14 of the UKHLS was recently released. However, it seems as though the marriage and cohabitation history file has not yet been updated to account for wave 14. Is it problematic in any way to merge the Wave 14 harmonized UKHLS file with the Marital and Cohabitation Histories, 1991-2022 file? If it's okay to use them together, would you be able to help point me toward the potential variables in the main data I could use to figure out changes in relationship status between waves 13 and 14? Would I just rely on marital status indicators?
Thanks so much in advance!

Hi Kimberly,
If you'd like to add waves 13 and 14, I suggest checking the Marital and Cohabitation Histories 1991–2021 – User Guide https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/documentation/user-guides/8473_main_survey_user_guide_marital_cohabitation_histories.pdf.
'Table A1: Description of the variables from the source data files that were used to create the variables in this file' should provide you with a comprehensive list. Additionally, you may also want to look at questions related to partnership changes in the Annual Events History module of the main questionnaire (https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/documentation/mainstage/questionnaires/).
Best wishes,
Piotr Marzec
