Description
Dear Team,
I would like to know whether the wage data in the EUL version of Understanding Society is top coded or censored.
Thanks
Nico

Hello Nico,
Reported and imputed income and investment amounts have been top-coded to protect respondent confidentiality. Specifically:
• Individual earnings, self-employment profits, investment income, and rent have been top-coded at £100,000 per annum (or the monthly equivalent), after accounting for tax and National Insurance for net incomes.
• Income sources (e.g. paygu_dv, payu_dv, etc) have been top-coded at ±£8,333 per month (or the equivalent net amount).
For access to income and investment data without top-coding, the Special Licence version of the dataset (SN 6931) is available here https://beta.ukdataservice.ac.uk/datacatalogue/studies/study?id=6931
You can find more details in the "Imputation flags and top-coding of income variables" section of the user guide here: https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/documentation/mainstage/user-guides/main-survey-user-guide/imputation-flags-and-top-coding-of-income-variables/
I hope this information is helpful.
Best wishes,
Roberto Cavazos
