Dear Andy,
In Understanding Society, for the sample in continuous employment, you can identify whether the respondent stayed with the same employer using the variable jbsamr, providing up to 14 years of data (including wave 14 that will released next month). Additionally, there are some respondents who also participated in the last three waves (16-18) of the British Household Panel Survey, where a similar question, jbempp, was asked.
I would also recommend checking the work of our fellow who created full working life histories from the BHPS and UKHLS data: https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/research/fellowships/previous-fellows/dr-jennifer-smith-university-of-warwick/ This could be very useful if wanted to proceed with your analysis.
Best wishes,
Piotr Marzec,
