Combing specific variables from two waves for cross-sectional analysis

Hi there,
I had a quick question: I am using household and individual-level wave 6 data for cross-sectional analysis but would like to integrate some individual-level variables from wave 7, namely the reasons for migration variables (mreason*). In w6 these were asked of the IEMB and in w7 of everyone else but they are not in the xwave datafile. I wanted to merge just the mreason info into the w6 datafiles, to add to the sample of people who have responded to these questions but using other w6 data for those individuals. Is this ok to do?
