Issue with religion variable in wave 12

Description
Hello support forum,
I think there might be an issue with the religion variable (l_oprlg1) in wave 12. I suspect this because nearly all the people who report belonging to both the Bangladeshi and Pakistani ethnic group (l_racel values 10 and 11) have l_oprlg1 = 11, indicating Christian (no specific denomination) religion. This can't be right - in other waves the vast majority of these ethnic groups report being Muslim. There are also some weird patterns for other ethnic groups, but this is the clearest indication of a mistake.
I therefore wonder if there is a coding issue for the values of l_oprlg1. Is this the right place to raise this issue to be looked into?
Many thanks,
Laurence

Hi,
I've done some initial checks and I can confirm that the l_oprlg1 variable is incorrect - my provisional diagnosis is that most probably all categories >11 are out of step by one and were coded using a lower code, so 11 using 10, 12 using 11 and so on. Our data team will investigate what happened.
Best wishes,
Piotr

Good afternoon!
I am now in the same boat as Laurence was a few years ago, as per the original inquiry. The issue with the l_oprlg1 variable is still there, and the inquiry is listed as ongoing.
Could you please update us on the progress?
Thanks,
Katya

Hello Katya,
This issue was addressed and fixed in the Wave 13 release (November 2023) and has not appeared again since.
I hope this information is helpful

Thanks for the update.
I can still see this as an issue in Wave 12 though. This will not be addressed, will it? For studies of party support, the timing of fieldwork matters, so skipping waves is not an option..
Hi Ekaterina,
We will investigate this and get back to you.
Best wishes,
