Description
Hello,
I am using the self-esteem measure from the youth questionnaire. There are 8 items - they seem to be from the Rosenberg self-esteem scale which typically has 10 items. My questions:
- Are these 8 items indeed taken from the Rosenberg self-esteem scale?
- What was the reason/justification to use only 8 (not 10) items?
- Is the 8-item measure valid/reliable?
Thank you very much in advance for your help!
Best wishes,
Marie
PS I see someone else raised the same issue before (https://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/853), but I am not quite satisfied with the answer given, as it only says the items were also used in the BHPS (where they seem to have used 9 items, not 8).

There are 9 questions (ypesta-ypesti) and the question "On the whole, I am satisfied with myself" is asked separately as part of a series of satisfaction measures - satisfaction with life overall, school, friends etc.

Sorry I meant 8 + 1 questions, where the 8 are the YPEST* questions and the 1 is the life sastisfaction question. You are correct the latter is not the same as the one in the Rosenberg scale.
