Description

Hello,

I am trying to study the association between children's mental health and their parents' mental health, before and during Covid-19.

The mental health of children has been assessed using the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and the parents' mental health has been evaluated using the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ). SDQ and GHQ are both give me scores that indicate mental health.
When I merge the three datasets of each wave alone using'pidp', I ended up with SDQ just for children and GHQ just for adults and missing in both. Therefore, I couldn't run the analysis.

How can I merge the datasets of children with their parents using SPSS, so I can run a correlation test between SDQ and GHQ?

Many thanks.

Hello,

We would recommend checking the SPSS version of our online Introduction to Understanding Society Moodle course, in particular EXAMPLE 7: HOW TO MATCH INFORMATION OF ANY TWO HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS? and EXAMPLE 8: USING EGOALT FILES. Please let us know if you have questions after completing these parts of the course. We will also be running a 2-day (free) workshop via Zoom in March which covers the same material as in the Moodle course, but there will be instructors present who will give short lectures and be present to answer questions as you work through the material. If you want to attend here is the information for registration: https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/help/training/2021/12/21/introduction-to-understanding-society-using-stata-spss-r-sas
