Not every respondent is eligible for every question. To know who is eligible for a specific question, take a look at the description of the "Universe" field in the questionnaire. The value of a variable is -8 for those who are not eligible for that question.

In case of PLBORNC, UKBORN, YR2UK4, if you check the Universes of these questions in the Wave 10 questionnaire, you will see that these are only asked of new entrants. Basically, these are asked in the first wave someone is interviewed. To make it easier to use, we have collected these information as reported in the different waves and put them in one file - xwavedat.

For the quesiton englang, if you check the universse you will see that it is asked of: "Part of the EMBoost, GP Comparison, LDA, or Immigrant and Ethnic Minority Boost sample, or foreign-born continuing respondents and their co-resident sample members, or any other foreign-born identified this wave, AND fed-forward English first language is missing". This question has been asked of others in other waves, you will have to pick up this information from those waves for those who were not eligible in this wave.
