Employment Status History Wave 1 of UKHLS

Description

Hi,

According to the documentation the employment status history is only available for individuals surveyed between Jan 2009 and June 2009.
Why is that? Does it mean that employment history of other individuals cannot be known at all?

The employment history of the rest of the sample was asked in Wave 5. You may also be interested in the syntax that was developed by Liam Wright to produce the complete employment history.https://github.com/ljwright/work-life-histories-ukhls-bhps

Thank you for your quick response. It is extremely helpful.
In the life employment history('empstat' file in wave 5) the start Year and Month are only provided for the last spells and not for the current employment spells. In order to get this data, I use the 'indresp' file which has variables called Jbbgy and Jbbgm (Year and month started the current job). But the universe for these variables is-
[If ((JBHAS = 1 OR JBOFF = 1)) // Has a job
And If ((ff_ivlolw <> 1 & Ff_everint <> 1) | ((Ff_ivlolw = 1 | Ff_everint = 1) & (Ff_jbstat = MIS |
Ff_emplw = MIS))) // New entrant never interviewed or has been interviewed previously and employment status and whether in paid employment at previous wave are missing]

How can we know the information on start year and month for people who were interviewed in previous wave but changed their job afterwards?

Hi Ishita,

For continuing sample members, they are asked questions about changes in employment status via the Annual History module. I am attaching a diagramatic representation of the questions.
