Description

I am wondering if someone would be able to give any more information on the drop-out rates of participants, particularly in Scotland. I noticed that there is a big difference between the amount of respondents in Wave 1 to the current wave (Wave 10) and I was wondering if there was more information on how steady the decrease in adult participants was and the likely reasons for one leaving the survey.

Many Thanks

Hello Ethan,

The number of adult interviews of Scotland residents increased in Wave 2 when we added the BHPS sample which included the Scottish Boost sample. Then due to normal attrition sample sizes dropped. Adult interview wave-on-wave response rate is around 2-3 percentage points lower for Scotland than England (GPS & BHPS samples). This working paper discusses representativeness and attrition for different sub-groups including based on region

Using weights should correct for non-response bias. To know more about the correct weights to select for your analysis see: https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/documentation/mainstage/user-guides/main-survey-user-guide/weighting-guidance

Hope this helps.
