Description

Hello,

I have a question about the Zz_ part in youth weights: w_XxxYy Zz_ aa. I am using cross-sectional data of waves 1–8, pooled into one analysis. Therefore, I will use cross-sectional youth weights of all 8 waves. Most parts of the youth weight make sense to me, w for wave, Xxx for youth, Yy for self-completion, aa for cross-sectional, i.e.: w_ythsc Yy_ xw. Because I use data of eight waves in one analysis, I would have expected to find a weight similar to this in each wave: w_ythsc us_ xw. However, this is only available for waves 1 and 2. These are the weights I find:

Wave 1: a_ythscus_xw
Wave 2: b_ythscus_xw and b_ythscub_xw
Waves 3–6: w_ythscub_xw (where w = c, d, e, and f)
Waves 7–8: w_ythscub_xw and w_ythscui_xw (where w = g and h)

So, for wave 1 and waves 3–6 the decision is clear because there is only one option for a cross-sectional weight. For waves 2, 7, and 8, however, I am unsure which weight to choose. As mentioned above, I pool data of eight waves into one analysis.

Thanks very much in advance for any advice you can provide.

Best wishes,
Marie
