Description
Hello,
Until recently I thought SDQ data was only available for 10-to 15-year olds. However, now I saw the SDQ also in the child data (waves 3 to 9) but only for five- and eight-year-olds. Could you explain why child SDQ data is only available for these two specific ages (i.e. five and eight years) but not for other ages (e.g. six, seven, or nine years)?

Dear Marie,
These questions are asked as part of the child development module, which is asked of parents when their child is aged 3, 5 and 8. These questions occur when the child is 5 or 8. This will relate to respondent burden and questionnaire timings, but I will find out if there is a particular reason for choosing those ages.

Dear Marie,
The choice of ages was influenced by the sweeps of the Millennium Cohort Study (9 months, then age 3, 5, 7, 11, 14, 17), which also coincide with the age at the start of each Key Stage in schools. Advice was taken from co-funders and expert data users within and outside ISER to reach the ages of 5 and 8.
