Description

Hello,
I just started to use Understanding Society for the LLAKES (Institute of Education, London) and, altough I have extensively looked into the documentation, the structure of the datafile W_EGOALT is not clear to me.

In particular I am not getting why there are multiple records (lines) for each individual (as identified by pdip). Which is the format and structure of this datafile?

Thank you,
Nicola Pensiero

Nicola,
EGOALT accounts for the pairwise relationship between all enumerated sample members in a household; _pno is the person number for the ego and _apno for the alter. The individual level enumeration file, INDALL, and the adult response file, INDRESP, have a number of pointer variables you can use if you prefer a wide rather than a long format, see e.g. _hgpart (pno of husband/wife/cp). The user guide, has a description of the pointer variables as well as an example of how to create a data set based on individual and household level information using pointers.
