Description

Dear Understanding Society,

I wanted to ask about the process of applying to access the data for a research project. I am a psychiatry trainee at South London and Maudsley NHS Trust in London and am also an academic clinical fellow.

I am interested in looking at the data about children's mental health and wondered if it would be possible to find out more about the composition of that data to see whether it would be feasible to answer certain research questions with the data available. I see that there is a report which includes some analysis of some mental health variables in children - feeling optimistic etc. but it does not appear to use the SDQ data. Have there been projects which have involved analysis of the SDQ data for children? In particular I would be interested in ethnicity in the context of child mental health. Is there ethnicity data available for the youth sample?

It would be great if you could advise on the process from here and whether it would be possible to discuss potential research questions using the survey data in more detail.

Many thanks

Regards

Dr Sophie Epstein

Yes, there is information on 10-15 yaer olds' SDQ scores (see the youth quesionnaires), their self-reported ethnic group, their parents' ethnic group. I am writing to you separately about existing research on this topic.
Best wishes,
Alita
