Description

Dear Support Team,

I have a question about the height variables in wave 16 of the BHPS. The height in inches variable (phlhti) has no values for 8 or 9 inches. Based on the wave 14 version of this variable, however, approximately 2000 individuals should have values of 8 or 9 inches. The issue does not seem to be a matter of poorer measurement in wave 16, as the "height
in feet" as well as all of the other values for the "height in inches" variable approximate well the wave 14 distribution.

Do you know if this might be a coding error, and if the data might be recoverable?

Thanks,
Sara Watson

Sarah,
Thanks for raising this coding issue. Values 8 and 9 were for some BHPS variables used as missing value codes and were in the specific case erroneously recoded to -1 and -2. We hope to fix this in a future re-release of BHPS, but suggest users in the meantime recode -1 to 8 and -2 to 9.
