Description

Hello

I have been reading the response rate information in wave 1 in the US user guide. I was wondering how the response rates in table 2 and 3 correspond to the information given in section 2.3.4.1. For example, in the text it says that 4080 EMB households were successfully interviewed but that doesn't correspond to 39.9% of the 10,077 EMB households displayed in table 2. Similar disparity is seen between the text and table 3. Have I missed something?

I would be very interested in having the summary wave 1 response data for England only by EMB and GPS, would it be possible to share that information with me?

Many thanks

Caroline

Table 2 is based on different definitions of what constitutes a “responding” household. The table excludes households where there was the grid and household questionnaire, but no individual interviews, whilst the text includes this latter outcome as being in the number of households. This is because we do have information about the sample members in the household and they are original sample members, but they aren’t considered productive.
Any Table 3 disparities are not clear to us - please elaborate.

England-only tables as requested:

Table A. Household response rates among eligible households, Wave 1: England

GPS EMB
Responding 57.1% 40.6%
Non-contact 7.7% 27.6%
Refusal 34.3% 29.2%
Other 0.9% 3.2%
N 43,267 9,880

Table B. Individual response rates, Wave 1: England

GPS EMB
Full interview 82.0% 72.3%
Proxy interview 5.6% 6.9%
Refusal 6.4% 8.8%
Other non-interview 6.1% 12.0%
N 40,855 9,098
