Description
Hi,
According to the ONS, around 20% of people live in private rented sector specifically and you will find a similar result looking say at the Family Resources Survey. However looking at the w_tenure_dv this is more like 10% in the data?
Any idea why is it is so drastically under-estimating PRS, or am I doing something wrong?

Dear Henry,
Figures derived from the UKHLS may not align with other sources. Before drawing any conclusions, we should ensure a like-for-like comparison by checking:
(a) whether the unit of analysis differs – “households in the PRS” vs “people living in the PRS”; and/or
(b) whether the PRS is defined differently from the ONS/FRS approach.
Finally, please confirm that your estimates are weighted and that the correct weight has been applied. I’ve attached the outputs from weighted analyses at both the household and individual levels, together with the code, for your reference. As you will see, in many waves the share is above 10% but below 20%. Please review these results, check their comparability with other sources, and let us know whether this resolves the issue.
