Description

Hello,

I am currently working on creating the tailored weight for my unbalanced panel dataset. However, after studying the instructions for tailored weights on Moodle, I still have some difficulties with the creation of tailored weights. It would be great if you could help me.

I am using the youth data about their SDQ from waves 3-13, and want to use their parents' information as independent variables. However, since I also want to consider some lagged effects of parents' influence on their children, I will use the parents' data from wave 1. One thing to notice is that the SDQ questionnaire is taken every two year for youth aged 10-15, so they will have at most 3 times of SDQ score over the waves and I want to use the youth data who have at least two SDQ score. I feel like I should choose wave 3 as my base weight but I am still confused. Meanwhile, about the data relating to parents, I want to consider the maternal, paternal and parental influence separately, which also brings some difficulties to my question.

Thank you very much! I am looking forward to your reply!

Yixuan,

You can start at either at wave 1 or wave 3. Maybe wave 3 is better as it also includes BHPS (so higher sample size). Start with enumeration weight. You may need to create a separate weight for each of your models (maternal, paternal and parental influence separately) if you are using different instruments / waves for these.
Your response indicator will indicate whether you have all the information (from parents from all waves, and all the information from youth) or not.

Hope this helps,
Olena
