Description
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this email finds you well.
First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Pattanapong Tiwasing (or Pat), a lecturer from Keele Business School, Keele University. Currently, my team and I have secured funding from Defra to conduct research on entrepreneurial ecosystems in rural local authorities in England. We are interested in your data, particularly the variables ORGM10, ORGAT7, YPSOCWEB, NETTALK3_1, NETTALK3_2, NETTALK3_3, FRNB and NORGM between 2019 and 2021.
We understand that we can request access to this data through the UK Data Service (UKDS). However, given the scope of our research, we are inquiring whether these variables are available at the local authority level. If they are not, we would like to know if your team has collected postcode information from participants. If so, how many postcode digits have you recorded?
Basically, we are only interested in these specific variables and don't want to go through a long process to access the whole dataset from UKDS. Therefore, if you could please provide us with the details on the location, we can determine whether to proceed with requesting access to this data from UKDS.
If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Best wishes,
Pat

Hello Pat
Understanding Society can be linked to geographical data. The Study provides a range of geographical identifiers and linked geographical data. You can find further details at Geographical data linkage .
For information specifically on Local Authority District, you will need access to the SN6666 Understanding Society: Waves 1-13, 2009-2022 and Harmonised BHPS: Waves 1-18, 1991-2009: Special Licence Access, Local Authority District. This dataset includes the wave-specific household identifier (w_hidp) and one or more geographical locator variables as indicated by the filename.
If you are interested in exploring other geographical levels as middle or lower layer super output areas, you can find more information in the first link provided.
I recommend searching for the variables you are interested in using, as some of them, like FRNB and NORGM were only asked in the BHPS which concluded in 2009. Others, such as NETTALK3_1, NETTALK3_2, NETTALK3_3 were asked only in Wave 3 (2011 – 2012) and Wave 6 (2014 – 2015). For more details, please refer to the variable search section.
I hope this information is helpful.
Best wishes,
Roberto Cavazos
