Description

Good morning,
I have downloaded the SPSS data files for SN 6614-Understanding Society: Waves 1-13, 2009-2022 and Harmonised BHPS: Waves 1-18, 1991-2009 ( https://beta.ukdataservice.ac.uk/datacatalogue/studies/study?id=6614 ).
However, when reviewing each wave of the BHPS Youth study responses, I cannot find a 'weight variable' to weight the responses (unlike with the UKHLS Youth study waves where the weight variable is the last variable listed in the SPSS file).
Please could you indicate if there is a weight variable for each wave of the BHPS Youth study? And if so, what the name of the weight variable is within each SPSS file for each wave (waves 'bd' through to 'br')?
This is high priority due to its use within the Public Service Productivity Review being conducted by the Office for National Statistics.
Best wishes,
Imogen Cartwright

Hello,

As per the BHPS User guide you should use the ypwght (https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/documentation/user-guides/5151-user-manual-bhps-volume-a.pdf, for instance, for wave 4 see page A3-42). SO, in the harmonised data the name in wave 4 is bd_ypwght.

Best wishes,
