Description

I'm wondering is there a socio-economic status indicator for those aged 16/17? As highest educational attainment/ job status is not an applicable SES indicator for adolescents. I see there is the variable masoc90 and pasoc90, but is there a variable for parent's highest educational attainment or another SES indicator? Thanks

Hi,

For non-resident parents you can use paedqf and maedqf, or panssec8_dv and manssec8_dv, for resident parents you can use any of the available measures for parents (e.g. hiqual_dv or jb/jlnssec_dv jb/jljlnssec8/5/3_dv). To link co-resident parents to children you can use the syntax available here: https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/sites/default/files/downloads/documentation/mainstage/syntax/stata/stata-parents-children-matching.do

Hope it helps.

Best wishes,
