Hi, what does "inapplicable" suggest? Why there are 96.66% of inapplicable replies to "ukborn"? Thanks

Hello Aelen,

May I know which wave you are referring to? In general, not every respondent is eligible for every question. To determine the eligibility for a specific question, please refer to the "Universe" field description in the questionnaire. If a respondent is not eligible for a particular question, the value of the corresponding variable is -8.

For instance, in Wave 12 (same for other waves) questionnaire, is only asked of new entrants. Essentially, in the first wave, someone is interviewed. To facilitate ease of use, UKHLS has collected this information as reported in various waves and compiled it in the file "xwavedat."
