Description

Hi,

I am trying to investigate the particpation in the hair sample and dried blood sample in IP12. I am using l_haircut and l_dbssamptak to determine if IP respondents participated in the biomeasures or not, however these variables only concern those in the nurse condition. Is their a variable which shows whether sample units who were in the interviewer or self-completion mode particpated i.e. they posted the blood or/and hair samples back? I have looked through each dataset and the variable search, however I cannot find any such variable.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Jasmine,

For both question routing, it's important to note that the mode is face-to-face, and the respondent is assigned to a nurse. Therefore, you would only find information for cases where the mode is "nurse." To determine the participation mode during the survey (interviewer, nurse, or participant), you can use variable "l_actual_mode."

I hope this information is helpful.

Hello Jasmine,

After consulting with our experts, I learnt that participants who engaged either online or with an interviewer were given the option to have the collection kit sent to them. They then self-collected their DBS/hair sample and returned it. My initial response overlooked this crucial aspect of the IP-Study, as I focused on the routing questions related to "haircut" and "dbssamptak."

The relevant variables you seek are "l_webkit" (send two sample collection kits) and "l_kit1" (give two sample collection kits), located in the "l_indresp_ip" file. To find the information related to the hair samples you're looking for, you'll need to merge “l_indresp_ip” and "l_hair_ip" files.

The information when the nurses collected the samples themselves are in variable “l_hairwill” and “l_dbswill”.

Let me know if you need further clarification or assistance.

I hope this information is helpful.

Best wishes,
