Description

Hi,

I am conducting a longitudinal study on factors that predispose individuals to purchase private medical insurance in addition to NHS.

I can't seem to find this information in US hence can't link files from both studies in indesrep. Was this question recoded for US or is there a separate data file for it.

I look forward to your timely response.

Kind regards,
Rosemary

Hello,

I am assuming you are asking about the hlcvr question which has been discontinued in UKHLS. You can find some related questions asking about private health care use in the module "Health Service Use", e.g. hlckn1-97, hospnhs, hlsvn1-hlsvn97, though these are available only in waves 10 and 12.

Hi Piotr,

Thank you for your timely response.

Yeah I saw those variables but does private use equal private insurance, thought it meant paying of pocket at the time of service use?

Also was there a reason this question was discontinued?

Kind regards,
Rosemary

Dear Rosemary,

I am very sorry we missed your follow-up question. You are right that private health service can be paid of pocket or from private insurance. Unfortunately, I could not find out what the reason for discontinuing this BHPS question was. I can only guess that happened because of the interview time limit - a lot of new questions were introduced in the UKHLS and, sadly, some old questions had to be dropped.

Best wishes,
