Description

Hi there

I'm starting a project that is looking at the drivers of economic inactivity and want to use data from the indresp datafile of the UKHLS, and just wondering what are the most appropriate variables to use. I'm looking to replicate the ONS definition of economic inactivity, which is: People not in employment who have not been seeking work within the last 4 weeks and/or are unable to start work within the next 2 weeks.

Would using a combination of variables - julk4wk (looked for work within last 4 weeks) and jubgn (able to start work within two weeks) serve as a good indicator of economic inactivity?

I think the data would look something like this in a table format:

julk4wk jubgn
Yes No
No Yes
No No
