Description

I have noticed a few inconsistencies with the derived cx_age variables. For example if ages are listed where ca_age > ch_age.

| pidp ca_age cb_age cc_age cd_age ce_age cf_age cg_age ch_age |
|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
25125. | 1156032651 45 . . . . . . 36 |
26501. | 1224193807 56 55 . . . . . 55 |
28127. | 1292924127 63 61 62 62 62 62 62 62 |
30217. | 1428717411 114 . . . . 40 40 40 |
30997. | 1496121727 80 71 71 71 71 71 71 72 |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have done a few other comparisons, and there is the odd anomly of a year, and the only big discrepancies seem to be related to ca_age.

There are few solutions to it. But I thought people should know.

This inconsistency is due to the fact that in the April 2020 web survey, there were 433 full and 49 partial respondents, who entered a
date of birth or sex that did not match the information we hold on the sample file. Respondents whose identity we were able to
confirm (n=309) have been added back into the April 2020 data, from the 4th edition of the COVID-19 data onwards. These respondents are identified by the variable “ca_pidpcorrected” in the ca_indresp_w file and the xsample file - all pidps you reported above are such respondents ca_indresp_w=3 "Medium dob match, sex match". You can see section 6.1 Wave 1 web survey, page 11 in the Covid-19 User Guide for further details (https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/sites/default/files/downloads/documentation/covid-19/user-guides/covid-19-user-guide.pdf).

Thank you for highlighting this issue, we will try to include more on how this error affects the cw_age variable in the study documentation.

Best wishes,
