Description

Dear Understanding Society Team,

I have a question on individual net labour income. I would like to know whether, in the BHPS, there is a variable that is
similar to w_fimnlabnet_dv in UKHLS (so, including also self-employment earnings).

So far, I noticed that there are two variables on individual gross labour income that are
highly comparable (fimnl and fimnlabgrs), but not for the net labour income.

If you could also guide me in constructing a variable for net labour income for BHPS that is highly comparable with the one of UKHLS, this would be really helpful.

Thank you and best regards,
Lydia

And just to be precise, I would be interested in the usual monthly earning, not the last earning or annual one.

Hi Lydia,

Details about how the income variables in UKHLS have been derived are explained in this paper:
https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/sites/default/files/downloads/working-papers/2019-08.pdf

Please take a look at it and let us know if you have further questions.

Best wishes,
