Description

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am currently using the Understanding Society dataset to complete my undergraduate dissertation which looks at employment types and life satisfaction for women. The amount of data the survey provides is extremely useful, thank you! I was wondering however if there is a variable which tells whether the individual is involuntarily or voluntarily unemployed, or more specific whether the individual is a home-keeper. I am trying to compare the impact of job types across women, i.e. part-time, full-time or a housekeeper or involuntarily unemployed, on life-satisfaction.

I am extremely grateful for any guidance!

Kind regards,

Ashling Larmer

Dear Ashling,

Yes, the variable you need is w_jbstat, which is found in the w_indresp file: https://www.understandingsociety.ac.uk/documentation/mainstage/dataset-documentation/variable/jbstat

Best wishes,
Stephanie
