Redmine Understanding Society User Support - Support #1474 (Resolved): Covid-19 weightinghttps://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/14742021-01-06T10:03:23ZLaura Silva

Good morning,

I have checked the guide and previous issues on weighting for Covid-19 study but I am still unclear of the best way to use them. I am running a) a cross-sectional analysis and b)a longitudinal fixed effects analysis using the waves 6 to 8 (waves g,h,i), baseline pre-Covid (jk) and the 4 waves of Covid-19 survey (ca to cd, until July). Should I use the i_indinui_xw for each of the cross-sectional waves until wave (I cannot find weights for the wave jk, so I am not sure how I would solve this) and the *_betaindin_xw for the Covid-19 survey waves? For the longitudinal analysis, I read in a previous query that you are working on a longitudinal weight, do you have an tentative date for releasing it? In the meantime, what is the best approach?

Many thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Laura
Understanding Society User Support - Support #1419 (Resolved): Moved to current address variablehttps://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/14192020-10-03T15:03:25ZLaura Silva

Hi,

if I understand well the variable *_myvr is asked every wave only to new entrants. Is there any variable that recaps when the individual has moved to the current address for all respondents up to wave 9?

Many thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Laura
Understanding Society User Support - Support #1348 (Resolved): Merginghttps://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/13482020-05-14T17:24:00ZLaura Silva

I am merging info from the child and the indresp datafiles of wave 9 (and I have to do it for all the other wavs).

As a first step I did the following:

use i_child.dta
merge m:m i_hidp using i_indall
drop _merge
merge m:m i_hidp using i_indresp

I end up with about 1,081 observation not matched from the master. Doesn’t it mean means that there are observation in the indall and child files which are not in the indresp? Is it possible?

More generally it is ok to proceed this way to put together info from the indresp and child datafiles?
Understanding Society User Support - Support #1347 (Resolved): weightinghttps://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/13472020-05-14T17:22:52ZLaura Silva

1)I am using the waves a-f using info from the youth and the adults questionnaire in each wave. Which weight is the most adequate to use?
Understanding Society User Support - Support #1326 (Resolved): Attitudes Towards Immigration Infohttps://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/13262020-03-25T14:39:46ZLaura Silva

I am currently investigating the development of attitudes towards immigration and I am planning to use Understanding Society. I am planning to build an indicator of "attitudes towards immigration" using national identity, education and political views as proxies (following Kaufmann, E. and Harris, G., 2015. “White Flight” or positive contact? Local diversity and attitudes to immigration in Britain. Comparative Political Studies, 48(12), pp.1563-1590.). However, I was wondering whether you are aware of any other relevant variable within the survey that might be relevant and that I could take a look at?

Many thanks in advance and have a lovely day,

Best,
Laura
