Redmine Understanding Society User Support - Support #1959 (Resolved): pooled analysis for one calendar y...https://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/19592023-08-17T11:26:36ZClara Mascaro

Hello,

I have read item 12 on the FAQ titled "Can I pool data from different waves for cross-sectional analysis?" and want to apply this method to produce cross-sectional weights for calendar year 2014.

In principle, this means combining waves 5 & 6. However, I notice there are also 1,603 interviews which took place in 2014 that correspond to wave 4. Inspecting these with the sample month variable, I see that these were all sampled in months 19-24 (year 2) of wave 4.

My question is: does the method proposed in item 12, when using waves 5 & 6, take into account these people who were sampled in wave 4 and interviewed in early 2014? Does it somehow compensate for the same happening at the end of wave 6? If not, could you please give me some pointers as to how I should adjust the syntax to pool data from the 3 waves?

Dear support team,

I am looking to construct an ISCED variable from UKHLS data (waves 2-9) for comparison with GSOEP data. I have seen that an w_isced11_dv variable exists for waves 6 and 9 although the online documentation shows it is coded as inapplicable for >90% of respondents. Do you know why that is the case?

I have also been searching the online documentation for information on how w_isced11_dv has been derived (so I can derive it myself for waves 2-9) but haven't been able to find it. Could you point me in the right direction please?

Many thanks,
Clara
Understanding Society User Support - Support #1379 (Resolved): Unmatched individuals when linking...https://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/13792020-07-16T14:46:08ZClara Mascaro

Hello,

I have recently added local authority level unemployment rates to a panel of individual-level UKHLS data (waves 1-9), using the Special License UKDA-6666 look-up file. I'm trying to understand the reasons why some individuals have not matched onto a local authority (given that hidp is non-missing). I understand that some households did not have valid postcodes. However, I noticed that 55% of the unmatched cases were in Northern Ireland (based on the gor_dv variable). Do you have an idea of why that might be the case?

Many thanks in advance,
Clara
