Dear UKHLS and BHPS users,

I have a question regarding the recoding of the variables on education in both
BHPS and UKHLS: `w'qfachih in BHPS and `w_hiqual_dv in UKHLS.

I would like to end up with a categorical variable that considers education as
characterized by low, medium and high levels.

Now, my problem is that, although I read about the different degrees of education and I checked carefully the variables from which the ones which I am interested in are derived, I am still uncertain on
how to perform my classification. I need therefore a clarification.

The second issue is that I am trying to harmonize the variables between BHPS and UKHLS and I cannot understand how you treat the category "other qualification" in BHPS, which is present in UKHLS. Is this category absent?

Thank you and best regards,
Lydia
Understanding Society User Support - Support #710 (Closed): variable `w'lcohhttps://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/7102017-01-28T19:53:23ZLydia Palumbolvpalu@utu.fi

Dear UKHLS/BHPS users,

I am uncertain on the meaning of the inapplicable variable in the variable `w'lcoh (present in both BHPS and UKHLS). Who does it refer to?
Thank you and best,
Lydia
