Redmine Understanding Society User Support - Support #639 (Closed): labor income for unemployed/inactive...https://iserredex.essex.ac.uk/support/issues/6392016-10-05T13:12:12ZPilar Gonalons Ponspgonalons@soz.uni-frankfurt.de

Hello,

I work on unemployment and I am trying to create a measure that summarizes respondents' yearly labor income. My question is, does the Understanding Society survey include information on labor income for respondents who do not have jobs at the time of the interview? I have reviewed all the income variables and it seems that all labor income variables rely on answers to variables like paygl, for which the universe is restricted to respondents who have a job at the time of the interview. Is there any other labor income variable that I am missing?

Many thanks! Best,

Hi,

I am preparing employment spells data using the Understanding Society survey. I have successfully obtained most of the information I need but I would like to double check I am doing things right. Since spell data setup is quite complex in this survey, I would like to know if there is (or whether there will be in the future) syntax that assists researchers preparing the spell data. Also, is there any documentation or report about this topic?

Thank you! Best,

Reposting because I am not sure my previous post is public/can be seen

Hi,

I am using the BHPS and merging job history records with interview data record. I come up with the following issue: I find many respondents whose current employment status started after September last year but have no spell record in the job history file.

If I understood the documentation correctly, all respondents who had changes of employment status since September last year should have at least one record in the job history file.

Anyone has any suggestion for what might be causing this mismatch?

Many thanks! Best,
